It was the former capital of the Lanna Kingdom. Phraya Mangrai ordered it to be built in 1829 by digging a moat on all four sides to keep the Mae Ping water flowing. In the ancient moat that appears in Wiang Kum Kam and nearby, it is an experimental Wiang that was built. Before becoming a city of Chiang Mai, it was located at Tha Wang Tan Subdistrict, Saraphi District, Chiang Mai Province. The distance from Chiang Mai city to the southeast is approximately 5 kilometers.
